Library Orientation for all First-Year College Students

From September 3–15, 2025, we conducted the Library Orientation for all first-year college students. Our librarian decided to hold the orientation per section so that we could explain everything in detail. This allowed us to properly inform the students about the library rules and regulations and introduce them to the library personnel.

The first topic we discussed was the baggage counter area. Upon entering the library, students are required to leave their bags at the counter. However, we always remind them to bring their important personal items such as wallets and cell phones. They are also allowed to bring notebooks and pens if they need to do research or work on assignments. We assured them that their belongings are safe since the area is monitored by CCTV, but we also emphasized the importance of being responsible for their personal belongings.

The second topic was the library online log-in system. Before entering the library, all students and faculty members are required to log in. This helps us monitor how many people visit the library and makes it easier to record who avails of the library’s services.

The third topic covered the different library sections.

·     The Reserve Section contains limited copies of books that can only be borrowed overnight. If students wish to extend, they must renew twice and return the book on time.

·     The Circulation Section has a larger number of book copies. These can be borrowed for two nights.

·       The Fiction Section is very popular, especially among students who enjoy reading stories from Wattpad and similar applications. Books in this section can be borrowed for seven days.

·       The Reference Section and Filipiniana Section include books, journals, magazines, and other materials that are for room use only.

In addition, we also introduced other library facilities such as the Review Nook, Nap Area, and computer stations, where students can use Microsoft Office applications for research and document preparation.

Finally, we reminded all students to observe silence inside the library to maintain a peaceful and conducive learning environment. We also emphasized proper behavior, respect for library materials, and cleanliness in all library areas. Everyone is encouraged to return books properly, handle resources with care, and be considerate of other users who are studying or reading.
